BLOWN AWAY: THE WIND-PROPELLED FUTURE OF SHIPPING
Meet the world’ s largest cargo ship to use wind as its main source of propulsion.
In what represents a huge step forward for sustainable shipping, the Neoliner Origin aims to reduce carbon emissions by 80 % compared to a similar vessel.
At the end of January, the ship graced the water for the very first time after leaving its slipway at the RMK Marine shipyard in Tuzla, Turkey, to be completed afloat at berth.
The final stages of construction – including mast installation – are in the process of being completed, after which the 136-metre vessel will undergo sea trials before undertaking its first transatlantic voyage in June.
With capacity for 5,300 tonnes of cargo or 265 containers, the Neoliner Origin is the brainchild of Neoline and is set to decarbonise maritime transport and logistics for brands like Renault, Hennessy and Clarins.
