Ensuring sustainable and ethical sourcing Sustainability represents another key pillar of Grupo Herdez ®’ s strategy, with responsible sourcing a central component.
The company has implemented comprehensive programmes to ensure ethical practices throughout its supply chain, particularly in agricultural sourcing.
“ We’ ve had a programme for almost 20 years around agricultural sustainability,” Javier goes on.“ We have a manual of sustainable agriculture that the agricultural suppliers have to follow, with specific guidelines around the use of chemicals, water and all the resources they need to grow plants and harvest.”
A dedicated team conducts on-site audits to verify compliance with these practices, supported by laboratory testing of products. For nonagricultural suppliers, Grupo Herdez ® has implemented a separate sustainability evaluation programme through a third-party platform.
“ Through these third-party companies, we certify the suppliers around sustainability,” Javier notes.“ We have our own methodology that is even better than some of the other methodologies we have found in the market.”
Creating incentives for sustainability Recognising that measurement alone is insufficient to drive change, Grupo Herdez ® has developed innovative incentives to encourage sustainable practices among suppliers.
