ESG INITIATIVES AT IRON MOUNTAIN
In Maria ’ s words , sustainability is no longer a thought at Iron Mountain , but a “ practical proposition that ’ s present in everything we do ”.
She explains : “ Because we ’ ve built quite a few warehouses , we partnered with developers that share our values , such as Tritax , which offers net-zero construction as standard .
“ We have a lot of what you ’ d expect in terms of sustainability in a warehouse – solar panels , etc . – but we also have an energy centre on the campus that allows the redistribution of energy between warehouses , which is very efficient especially when you have automation .
“ Partnership with local communities is also very important to us . At our site in Lutterworth , UK , we have a Creating Tomorrow school for young adults with learning difficulties .
“ From the beginning they integrate with us , we share the same welfare area and we do something called job carving , which might mean adapting a traditional shift to suit the passion of the individual . After giving them a mixture of academic and practical skills , we can integrate them into our operation . It ’ s about building that local collaboration .”
