“ New employees often say sustainability efforts influenced their choice to work with us. It’ s a key engagement driver,” he adds.
The role of transport and technology At GXO, green logistics is embedded into daily operations. Chris Hyde, Managing Director for Food and Drink, explains:“ We see our role as helping our customers make their supply chains cleaner and more resilient. Sustainability is not a side project for us.”
Transport remains one of the biggest opportunities to cut supply chain emissions. On this journey, GXO is trialling alternative fuels, uses EVs and deploys planning tools to reduce empty journeys.
Chris brings 25 + years in logistics across retail, industrial, e-commerce and FMCG. At GXO since 2003, he has progressed from Contract Operations Manager to Managing Director.
“ These don’ t just represent efficiency gains on paper but also translate directly to lower fuel consumption and fewer emissions on the road,” says Chris.“ Green logistics helps cut costs because fewer miles, fuller loads and better fuel efficiency all reduce spend as well as emissions.”
Whilst many businesses are looking to take these steps in the near future, Chris warns that companies must be more proactive:“ Upcoming government regulations on emissions, low‐emission zones in cities and stricter reporting requirements are not going away.”
