EMPLOYEES: 460,000 CEO: CAROL TOMÉ FOUNDED: 1907
UPS boasts a global fleet of more than 19,000 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles, which includes more than 1,000 electric and hybrid EVs. Since 2000, the company has driven more than five billion miles on alternative fuel, avoided more than 1.8 million metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions and is continuing to grow. To help vehicles reduce their environmental impact further, UPS uses supply chain optimisation tools and carbon offers.
These help offset shipment emissions and reduce environmental impact through more efficient route planning. It also makes use of e-cargo bikes, smart-grid depot charging and natural gas to make up its sustainable fleet options. In 2024, UPS purchased 177 million gallons of alternative fuel, making up 30.6 % of its total ground fuel usage. The organisation has more than 100 electric HGVs operational across Europe, in partnership with Mercedes-Benz.
