THE SUPPLY CHAIN INTERVIEW
Since this time, ongoing geopolitical tensions, changing trade policies and transportation corridors have put global supply chains under strain. The Strait of Hormuz has faced major disruption, meaning that trade routes have had to be altered and journeys are taking longer.
Through this, Daniel learned that resilience needs to be embedded into the network – it is not enough to respond during the crisis. Instead, flexibility and visibility are crucial.
Logistics leaders and supply chain experts can all agree on one thing; uncertainty now seems to be a permanent part of a global operation. Daniel highlights how changing trade policy, economic uncertainty and geopolitical tension are creating unprecedented levels of complexity.
“ Companies are no longer asking how to avoid disruption,” Daniel says.“ They are asking how to operate successfully despite disruption. That is a fundamentally different mindset.” UPS’ s role is to deal with the complexity in order to make navigation simple for its customers. Daniel aims to help cut through the noise and inform leaders what is impacting their supply chains and provide the flexible solutions to help them maintain operations. For Daniel, logistics is a boardroom issue, as it determines customer experience, resilience and the ability for an organisation to grow.
Emerging trends With the movement to resilience over efficiency, other trends are impacting how supply chains operate.
