Whether that be the entire or main focus of the group , like the world ’ s largest parcel courier Deutsche Post DHL , or those business interests confined to one or two particular subsidiaries like Hitachi or Swire Group .
The official definition of a conglomerate is a corporation made up of a number of seemingly unrelated businesses engaged in various areas that fall under one overall corporate group , usually involving a parent company and many subsidiaries . Each of a conglomerate ’ s subsidiary businesses runs independently of the other business divisions , but the subsidiaries ’ management reports to senior management at the parent company .
