“ PARTNERSHIPS ARE THE BIGGEST ASSETS COMPANIES HAVE IN DE-RISKING THEIR SUPPLY CHAINS”
JOSELINA PERALTA, FOUNDER AND CEO, STRACTIX
In fact, she jokes that the CPO role should be reimagined to become‘ Chief Partnership Officer’.
“ When I talk from a supply chain and a procurement point of view, partnerships are the biggest assets companies have in de-risking their supply chains,” says Joselina.
“ If partners are not invested in your success, they’ re supporting your competition.”
Emerging economies strengthening supply chains For emerging economies looking to strengthen their position in global supply chains, Joselina identifies three critical factors:
• Labour
• Land
• Technology
“ Traditionally, we have gone east with our supply chains, but I think now there’ s more focus on the Caribbean or Latin America,” adds Joselina.“ They have labour, they have land and they also have acceleration in technology.” Digital capacity and infrastructure are equally important considerations.
Joselina advises companies to be intentional about their investments and selective about their partnerships, focusing on areas where they can create the most significant impact.
“ You have to be selective and you have to be also very timely,” she advises.
The STRACTIX chief goes on to recommend quarterly joint P & L reviews with partners rather than traditional bi-annual assessments to maintain visibility into potential issues before they become major problems.
Technology as a complement, not a replacement While technological advancements have clearly revolutionised supply chain management, Joselina cautions against viewing technology as a solution in itself. Instead, she sees it as a complement to human expertise.“ The supply chain needs to be supported and amplified with technology,” Joselina emphasises.“ Automation and AI can have a bad reputation with a lot of people, but it is truly a complement.
“ For example, I work faster and in sync thanks to search engines that are more powerful than if I had dozens of analysts.”
