The company was founded by Yale graduate Frederick W . Smith , who based the idea on a term paper about a system designed for urgent deliveries .

By 2015 , FedEx was successful enough to acquire rival firm , TNT Express , for € 4.4 billion ( US $ 4.8 bn ) as it looked to expand its operations in Europe .

It was later renamed Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu , which was then abbreviated to Deloitte .
